what happened with metopon?

▌▏✤┊▸ FISH OUT OF WATER. ❞ anon u sure you wanna set me off on this.

metopon was the peridot blog created by my dear friend who goes by the penname hades. we’d decided to make steven universe blogs together after talking about having muse for the show ;; i was going to make a lapis lazuli blog ( obviously ), one of his friends was going to make a jasper, and he, of course, was going to make peridot. he was EXTREMELY excited about this entire thing, so was i, and though both of us were a bit nervous about how we’d be received here, we were both overall really excited to create our blogs and write for the characters we loved.

i guess it turned out we should have been nervous, because hades was accused of copying another blogger NOT EVEN FORTY-EIGHT HOURS AFTER STARTING HIS PERIDOT BLOG. he was sent a message on anon by a FRIEND of the person who was accusing him ( no, i’m not going to name anyone. i won’t be that person. ) – while said person did nothing but vaguepost about it WHILE MY AUTISTIC FRIEND WAS HAVING A BREAKDOWN OVER BEING ACCUSED OF THIEVING. which he never did, by the way. i WATCHED HIM build his blog from the ground up, and while we understand accidental similarities do happen, especially with canon characters, me, him, and several other people looked over his bio and the bio of the blogger in question and agreed they just weren’t that similar. ( also, funfact – during this period i posted about being worried over my friend WHO WAS BREAKING DOWN. i got vagued about for ‘supporting a thief’. c: )

even so, hades took down his bio and rewrote it, changed his rules to take hate more seriously and turned off anon – because, may i repeat, the accusations and vagueposting set off his mental illness and made him HAVE A BREAKDOWN – and then tried to get back to rping. he changed his theme and redid all his pages ;; he made a post stating that any similarities to other blogs were unintentional and he’d made changes, but from now on anyone who wanted to discuss an issue with him would need to do it directly and not on anon in a way designed to publicly humiliate him. at this point we were both very nervous to keep going with the blog, but we didn’t want to let this drive us away from the characters we loved.

then, today, a post was published on an rp burnbook blog, which i will screenshot rather than link to as so not to give that gross blog traffic –

‘stealing from an innocent person’ more like being accused baselessly not two days after starting his blog

needless to say, this was the last straw for my friend, and he chose ( reasonably ) to leave the su rp community

tl;dr: my mentally ill friend was relentlessly accused in a publicly humiliating way about a day after starting his blog to the point that he had a breakdown, attempted to make peace by making changes to his blog, and instead of anyone reasonably talking to him, got put into a fucking burn book blog. congrats, fandom – under the guise of being righteous for ‘catching stealing’ that NEVER FUCKING HAPPENED, you drove a completely innocent person out of your fandom. good fucking job
